Bright Starts Program

The Bright Starts Program offers support for families experiencing challenging life circumstances. Peer support groups, led are offered in Port Hope, Cobourg and Campbellford every two weeks. During group, participants are provided with the following services and resources:

o   Parenting education and support

o   Screening and monitoring of participant children’s development

o   Information and support regarding determinants of health with a focus on personal and family health practices and coping skills, healthy child development, family home safety.

o   Linkage and referral to other community service providers and support

o   Gift Cards for fresh food and prenatal vitamins are given to pregnant and breastfeeding participants

o   Simply Supper Food Bags (a meal in a bag), household and personal items, baby food and diapers are provided free with group attendance

ELIGIBILITY

  • Expectant mothers and parents of children to six years experiencing low income, social or geographical isolation, family violence, substance use, mental health concerns, reduced parent capacity.

FUNDING

  • The Northumberland Bridges Program is funded by the Public Health Agency Canada (Community Action Program for Children, Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program) in partnership with SIRCH at no cost to families.

  • Education may include topics such as: nutrition, physical activity, healthy infant and child development, parenting, car seat safety, fire safety, and self-care. We offer a variety of educational opportunities for attendees.

  • Yes. As an attendee at group, there is access to a healthy snack, take-home options for non-perishable food items, and our Simply Suppers.

  • Groups involved a social gathering at a local community spot. There are opportunities for social connection, education, and meeting professionals within our community. The children have play areas and activities that promote development and social engagement. Each group has a nutritious snack available.

  • Yes! Children are welcome to each and every group and children’s activities are implemented.
